It’s no secret I love backlight, sunflare-y photos, so I was tickled pink when Rock the Shot’s September photo challenge was backlighting.

This is my favorite silhouette shot–as most know, the key to silhouettes is to switch your camera settings to manual–and for this particular photo, *ALL* the way to manual by switching to manual focusing as well…when doing “change of focus” shots (as I like to call them) like these when you’re intending to focus on something small or  skinny (like blades of grass), you will have a hard time getting the camera to focus on those tiny blades of grass if you’re in auto focus. So for this shot, I manually focused on the grass, increased my shutter speed and lowered my ISO until I liked the exposure on the sky (which resulted in underexposed, silhouette-y subjects) and shot away!
